Aorist has partnered with The ReefLine, Miami Beach’s first underwater sculpture park, marine sanctuary, and artificial reef. The ReefLine, located just off the coast of South Beach, will provide a habitat for endangered reef organisms, promoting biodiversity and enhancing coastal resilience. International and local Miami artists are creating underwater artworks to help to repopulate marine life in this aquatic sanctuary.
World-renowned architecture firm OMA, led by New York Principal Shohei Shiegematsu, designed the master plan and architectural concept for The ReefLine. Aorist has commissioned innovative artists taking part in The ReefLine project to produce unique NFTs in dialogue with their physical sculptures. The NFTs draw attention to the climate crisis, rising sea levels, and dying coral reefs.
Carlos Betancourt (in collaboration with Studio Brasch), Leandro Erlich, and OMA (in collaboration with Casa Atabia) have each created their first NFTs for this project. Proceeds from the sale of these works benefit The ReefLine, helping to bring this marine sanctuary to life in the physical world. The corresponding NFT's will be released on Aorist 30 November at a benefit auction for The ReefLine.
These works are born at the intersection of the physical and digital realms, encouraging audiences to engage with the physical 7-mile artificial reef and the issues surrounding it, while immersing them in the artists' fantastical digital imaginations. Embodying Aorist’s commitment to our planet, these innovative artists harness technological advancements to foster a community that is aware and engaged with the climate crisis, and especially with global warming, rising sea levels, and dying coral. On 30 November, 2021, Aorist and Algorand Foundation will co-host an NFT auction, the proceeds of which benefit the The ReefLine project.
